On the 13th of September 2022, Mahsa Jina Amini, the Kurdish 22 year-old was visiting Tehran (the capitol) ahead of her birthday with her family when she was stopped on the street by the so-called 'Morality Police'. Arrested and thrown into a van for 'improper hijab', Mahsa fell into a coma while at the detention centre and died in hospital by the 16th of September 2023.
From her grave-site, women bravely took off their hijab, took to the streets chanted 'Woman Life Freedom' - a phrase that went on to shake a nation in solidarity. A National uprising ensued encompassing all of Iranian society with over 200 cities involved and the rest of the world watching.
While there is political motivation to completely overthrow the 44 year old theocratic system imposed by the Islamic Regime which radically imposes gender-based discrimination against Iranian women, the national uprising is currently leaderless, completely grass-roots and human rights centric.
Iranians are displaying regular acts of non-violent civil disobedience like not wearing the hijab, writing on the walls, using social media and protesting in schools and universities to make their demands to the world heard: We don't want this regime, and it's only a matter of time before they are through.
Be Iran's Voice was founded in October 2022 after recognising the need for a UK based organisation dedicated to connecting action supporting the Woman Life Freedom movement to non-Iranian allies.
In light of the extensive internet surveillance and repression within Iran, a key method of countering the limitation of global awareness relies on social media.
By actively following and regularly sharing videos from Iran on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, we contribute significantly to enhancing global accountability.
Demonstrate your solidarity by participating in a nearby protest. Amidst the relentless violation of Iranian human rights, your presence becomes a pivotal force in mutual empowerment. Influences decision-makers en mass, and connect directly with Iranians on the ground.
Be Iran's Voice presents a curated list of UK-based active groups known for organising regular protests.
At Be Iran's Voice, our volunteers and writing team create open letters/ MP letter templates and petitions in unity with the demands of the voices in Iran.
We promote and amplify global community-led calls for action.
Our webpage for action is curated for allies to the Woman Life Freedom movement and is regularly updated.
